Plumber Eldridge — Serving Sonoma Valley's Smallest Community

Eldridge is a census-designated place of roughly 1,300 residents northwest of Sonoma, centered around the former Sonoma Developmental Center campus on Arnold Drive. It is one of the most rural communities in our immediate service area — and its plumbing reflects that: private wells, septic systems, and infrastructure that ranges from century-old institutional piping to modern residential construction.

Plumbing in Eldridge — A Community in Transition

For most of the twentieth century, Eldridge was defined by the Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC), a state-run residential facility that occupied over 800 acres along Arnold Drive. The campus had its own water system, its own infrastructure, and its own maintenance crews. When the SDC began closing in phases — fully shutting down in 2018 — the community it had sustained entered a period of transition that continues today.

Sonoma County has approved a specific plan for redeveloping portions of the former SDC campus into a mixed-use community with housing, open space, and community facilities. That redevelopment will eventually bring new construction and modern plumbing to the site. In the meantime, the existing residential properties in Eldridge — scattered along Arnold Drive, Harney Street, and the surrounding rural roads — are what we serve.

These homes are a mix of ages and types. Some are staff housing originally built by the state, with institutional-grade piping. Others are private residences on larger lots with private wells and septic systems. Three homes in Eldridge were lost in the 2017 Nuns fire, and a small number of properties have been rebuilt or renovated since.

What Makes Eldridge Plumbing Different

Eldridge is not The Springs. It does not have the geothermal mineral-water issues of Boyes Hot Springs or the dense rental housing of Fetters Hot Springs. Its plumbing challenges are rural in character: private water systems, septic tanks, longer supply runs from well to house, and infrastructure that may not have been professionally maintained during the SDC's long decline.

Properties on private wells face water quality issues specific to the Arnold Drive corridor — including iron, manganese, and hardness levels that vary by well depth and local geology. Well pump failures, pressure tank problems, and sediment-filter maintenance are common calls from Eldridge that we rarely see in the sewer-connected communities closer to Sonoma.

Septic system service is the other defining feature of plumbing in this area. Homes on septic need drain-clearing approaches that protect the system's bacterial balance — meaning we avoid chemical drain cleaners and use mechanical methods (augering, hydrojetting at appropriate pressure) instead.

Eldridge vs. The Springs

  • Water source

Many Eldridge homes rely on private wells, not municipal supply.

  • Sewer vs. septic

Most Eldridge properties are on septic systems, not connected to a public sewer main.

  • Lot sizes

Larger rural lots mean longer supply and drain runs, which changes repair logistics.

  • Fire rebuild mix

A small number of homes were rebuilt after the 2017 Nuns fire with modern plumbing, alongside untouched older structures.

Plumbing Services for Eldridge Properties

Well Pump & Pressure Tank Service

Diagnosis and replacement of submersible well pumps, jet pumps, and pressure tanks. We also service pressure switches, check valves, and pitless adapters. If your well water shows signs of sediment, odor, or pressure fluctuation, the pump system is the first thing to evaluate.

Septic-Safe Drain Cleaning

Mechanical augering and controlled hydrojetting that clears blockages without disrupting your septic system's biological balance. We never use chemical drain products on septic-connected properties. Drain cleaning details.

Water Heater Repair & Replacement

Tank and tankless units. For Eldridge homes on well water, we check for sediment and mineral buildup during every water heater service call — well water conditions here vary enough that maintenance intervals differ from one property to the next. Water heater service details.

Repiping

Whole-house and partial repiping. Some former SDC staff housing in Eldridge has copper or galvanized supply lines original to the building, which may be 50 to 70 years old. Repiping process.

Water Filtration & Treatment

Sediment filters, iron filters, and water softeners for well-water homes. If your Eldridge well produces water with visible sediment, reddish staining, or a sulfur smell, a water test can determine the right treatment approach before we spec equipment.

Emergency Service

Burst pipes, well pump failures, and sewer or septic backups. Eldridge is approximately five miles from our Sonoma base — response times average 25 to 30 minutes depending on the specific location along Arnold Drive.

Questions From Eldridge Homeowners

My home is on a private well. Do you work on well systems?

Yes. We service well pumps (submersible and jet), pressure tanks, pressure switches, and the supply plumbing from well to house. For water quality concerns — iron staining, sediment, hardness, or odor — we can recommend and install filtration or treatment systems appropriate to your specific well conditions. We do not drill new wells, but we work with local well drillers if a new well is needed.

My house is on septic. Do you handle septic-related plumbing?

We handle the plumbing side — drain cleaning, sewer line repair from house to septic tank, and fixture issues. We do not pump septic tanks (that requires a licensed septic hauler), but we can coordinate with one if your issue involves both a plumbing repair and a tank pump-out. All our drain-cleaning methods on septic properties are septic-safe — mechanical only, no chemical products.

Is the SDC redevelopment going to affect my water or sewer service?

The Sonoma Developmental Center specific plan includes provisions for new water and sewer infrastructure on the redevelopment site. For existing residential properties in Eldridge that are on private wells and septic, the redevelopment is not expected to change your service type — those properties will remain on their existing systems unless you choose to connect to new infrastructure if and when it becomes available. We recommend monitoring Sonoma County's SDC redevelopment updates for timeline information.

Do you serve the Glen Ellen side of Arnold Drive too?

Yes. Arnold Drive runs continuously from The Springs through Eldridge into Glen Ellen. We serve the entire corridor. Our Glen Ellen plumbing page covers the specific conditions and services for that community.

Need a Plumber in Eldridge?

We serve the full Arnold Drive corridor from The Springs to Glen Ellen. Same-day appointments available. No extended travel fee.
